As I was preparing my appetizer for my new women’s wine group last night I was listening to a cd and wondering what other people listened to while they are cooking. Jess always listens to NPR. This is not a favorite for me because I can never concentrate on the radio show and cook. Then when I do get interested, there is no rewind so I can hear what I missed.
I asked a couple ladies last night what they listened to. Ones said she doesn’t listen to anything, she normally talks to her dogs. Another girl apparently doesn’t cook much. Why don’t you leave a comment and let me know what you are listening to.
For your listening pleasure, this is what is currently playing in my kitchen.
We usually listen to the TV. News or Wheel of Fortune. Which is really dumb since we can’t see the puzzle as our TV is in the living room. Oh well!
I have reruns on the tv in the background. Isn’t cable tv and open plan living grand? Something about voices talking makes me feel a bit more inspired in the kitchen, but because I have seen the episode many, many times before I don’t get distracted and try to actually watch the screen.
My favorite to cook to is Grand Designs. I think I have seen the first series now about 800 times. I make my best meatloaf when they rerun the Huf House episode.
Okay, it was me who said I just talk to my dogs! But I think I am going to start listening to some tunes! I think I’d prefer some accoustic, relaxing guitar music or something. I will let you know!
Sometimes it’s TV, but when we’re *really* going, I revert to my childhood – when we were cooking big holiday meals or for parties and guests, we’d always put Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Peter Paul & Mary, Neil Diamond, or some other old great on dad’s turntable (yes, VINYL), and dance around the kitchen or sing while we cooked.
Now that I’ve got a turntable again, I’ve pulled out the vinyl, and we listen to some good Billy Joel, Elvis, Bob Denver, or other ’50s rock or even country (that’s Eric’s doing) while we cook.
I listen to porn.
I play our cable-TV music channels, either Soundscape or Jazz. That means either new-agey music that is near elevator quality (or lack thereof) or the much nicer “real” jazz station.
At times, I’ll turn on the Food Network while I’m cooking, or even Turner Classic Movies, just in case there’s something great on like a screwball comedy (recently caught parts of “Miracle of Morgan’s Creek”) or a Hitchcock thriller.
Thanks for asking!
to each their own, Tonya!
So funny – was just talking to my husband about this last night. I love listening to Blues while I cook. (Well, I love listening to Blues at any time, but especially while I cook would be more accurate.) Doesn’t really matter who it is, just the general mood is perfect for me while cooking.
But music aside, what’s this about a women’s wine club??? Sounds fantastic!
I either talk with my husband or listen to the TV. During Christmas, I listened to Christmas music.
I listen to lots of Miles Davis. I’m not a jazz expert, but there’s something about the mood that I love. I also like cooking to French music that I don’t understand. Which is really weird. It must make me feel fancy. Haha…
